Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 dated (again)Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 dated (again)
Joystiq Xbox, April 22, 2012: Once upon a time Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was scheduled to come out on March%20, but as we all know a good sniper requires patience, adaptability and more development time, apparently. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is now set to launch on August 21 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, Shacknews reports.
Splash Damage: Brink sales estimated at 2.5 millionSplash Damage: Brink sales estimated at 2.5 million
Joystiq PS3, April 22, 2012: Despite a rocky launch and underwhelming critical reception, Brink went on to do "all right" on the PC thanks to multitudes of patches, free DLC and a sprinkle of magical sales dust from the Steam Discount Fairy.
As it turns out, all right actually means pretty damn good: "It's estimated to have sold more than 2.5 million units worldwide, which at retail would mean that it's generated around $120-140 million in revenue," said Splash Damage CEO Paul Wedgwood during an interview with Gamasutra. Not too shabby for a game we gave two stars last year. "But of course, as an independent video game developer, we don't earn that kind of revenue, as we're not the publisher of the title," Wedgwood said. Splash Damage plans on changing that by opening WarCrest, its own publishing house. WarCrest will handle Splash Damage's future products, while Fireteam (another Splash Damage-founded company) handles said games' associated online services.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive SDK to drop three months after full titleCounter-Strike: Global Offensive SDK to drop three months after full title
Joystiq PS3, April 22, 2012: The software development kit for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is scheduled to launch three months after the game itself, which is a lot like saying it'll drop "as the crow flies," since CS: GO doesn't technically have a release date yet. The SDK will allow players to mod and create their own maps, and is in development by Valve veteran Mike Durand.
The kit will include a few maps from Counter-Strike 1.6 that didn't make it into Counter-Strike: Source, Valve's Gabe Newell announced on the podcast Seven Day Cooldown. Newell said Valve has successfully integrated both titles into CS: GO, "unless the beta testers are blowing smoke up our ass."
Kickstarter alternative 'Gambitious' coming to Europe this summerKickstarter alternative 'Gambitious' coming to Europe this summer
Joystiq PS3, April 22, 2012: Kickstarter has, for better or worse, blown up the entire indie gaming scene, with everyone and their dog taking to the service in the hopes of being the next Double Fine. Kickstarter does have one major thing holding it back, however, and that's the fact that U.S. residency is required to enroll on Amazon Payments - the e-commerce backbone that powers the website.
European indie developers may have an alternative fairly soon, albeit with a few fundamental differences. Dutch company Gambitious seeks to fill the crowdfunding void across the pond with its own service, but rather than donating funds to receive gifts like a pledge drive, Gambitious users actually purchase shares of a game's development. Upon successful completion of the game, the user receives dividends like a traditional investor, rather than a copy of the game or a lunch date with one of its art directors. The service is scheduled to launch sometime around E3, and while it will initially be limited to European territories, international expansion is part of Gambitious' long-term game plan.
Dragon's Dogma digital comic, part 2: PawnsDragon's Dogma digital comic, part 2: Pawns
Joystiq, April 22, 2012:
The latest issue/episode of the Dragon's Dogma digital comic details the narrative justification for the game's "pawn" system, which allows players to borrow NPCs from another user's single-player game. Obviously, that involves giant glowing rocks and murdered people in front of castles.
Peep the latest Japanese trailer for Pokemon Black and White 2Peep the latest Japanese trailer for Pokemon Black and White 2
Joystiq DS, April 21, 2012:
We don't know if you guys realize this or not, but Japanese is dramatically different from English. They use different keyboard layouts and everything, which can make understanding the media somewhat of a challenge. Some things however, like this latest trailer for Pokemon Black and White 2, transcend the man-made boundaries of language by communicating on a far more primal, emotional level. Debuted during last night's Nintendo Direct event in Japan, the above trailer showcases tons of gameplay, what appears to be a water-type gym and a bunch of words we don't understand.
Sony registers domain for 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale'Sony registers domain for 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale'
Joystiq PS3, April 21, 2012: Back in November of last year, rumors swirled over Title Fight, which was reportedly an unannounced brawler/fighting game staring characters from various Sony and PlayStation-exclusive franchises, like Heavenly Sword and God of War.
The game was said to be in development at SuperBot Entertainment, and that's about all that ever came of it, since the rumor died off almost as quickly as it had flared into life. Now though, new life has been injected into its whimpering husk with the registration of an extremely longwinded URL: http://www.playstationallstarsbattleroyale.com If we follow the rumor train's logic tracks, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is Title Fight's actual name, and the game is set to be officially announced on Spike TV this Thursday. The URL does belong to "Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC," according to the its whois information, so that much at least has been verified as totes legit. As for whether this thing is what became of Title Fight, however, we'll have to wait and see. One thing's for sure, though: That URL is way too long.
Trials Evolution is 'highest grossing day-sales in Xbox Live Arcade history'Trials Evolution is 'highest grossing day-sales in Xbox Live Arcade history'
Joystiq Xbox, April 21, 2012: Maybe you haven't heard - Trials Evolution is kind of a big deal. Such a big deal, apparently, that Microsoft says it's the, "highest grossing day-sales in Xbox Live Arcade history." What does that actually mean? Your guess is as good as ours, as Ubisoft unfortunately "don't have any numbers that we can share." At least that's what a rep told us. Harumph.
Gamasutra, however, sussed out from Xbox Live leaderboards that approximately 100K ruff ryders took to the hills and valleys (and tires and wood and ... you get the idea) of Trials Evolution. Not too shabby for day-one sales on Xbox Live ... we think? At 1200 MS Points ($15), that's approximately $1.5 million gross in a mere 24 hours, so, yeah, not too bad!
Square Enix hints, nudges and winks about The World Ends With You sequelSquare Enix hints, nudges and winks about The World Ends With You sequel
Joystiq DS, April 21, 2012: The World Ends With You is, besides being an excellent name for a My Chemical Romance song, one of the few non-Final Fantasy RPGs from Square Enix to obtain cult classic status. The last we heard of a potential sequel to the teenager-infused romp through Shibuya was in August of%2010, when series artist Tetsuya Nomura said "I definitely want to make a sequel."
Fast-forward about a year, and The World Ends With You protagonist Neku is spotted as one of the many cameos during Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance's Tokyo Game Show demo. Now, Nomura has said that TWEWY supporting character Raimu, who never spoke during the original game, will also be in Kingdom Hearts 3D and will be fully voice acted "out of consideration of the future of The World Ends With You series," according to an interview translated by Andriasang. If that weren't powerfully tantalizing on its own, Nomura also said that "there probably is something" coming in the series' future, though he couldn't speak in specifics at the time. He also laughed mid-sentence, according to the translation, although there's no context provided to indicate whether the laugh was the playful chuckle of an appreciative artist, or the maniacal cackling of a man manipulating the hearts of thousands. Without this vital context clue, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Here's Max Payne 3's TV commercialHere's Max Payne 3's TV commercial
Joystiq PS3, April 21, 2012: The official Max Payne 3 television commercial debuted last night during the Lakers v. Spurs game on ESPN last night, and it's chock full of all the Max Payne-y things you'd expect - slow motion bullets, slow motion jumping, slow motion ladies, etc.
It's a little sad that the game is billed as "from the makers of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption," considering that the original Max Payne predates both GTA3 and the entire Red Dead franchise. Then again, a modern 18 year old gamer would only have been seven years old when the series originally debuted in%2001, so we can't really blame Rockstar for playing to its target demographic's familiarities. Kids these days with their Macintosh computers and their Fiat 500s.
New map, game mode in next free Gotham City Impostors updateNew map, game mode in next free Gotham City Impostors update
Joystiq PS3, April 21, 2012:
![]() Another free update is gracefully dropping from on high in Gotham City Impostors, adding a new map, game mode and character customization option to Monolith's downloadable shooter. The East End map is described as a grimy and dilapidated section of Gotham, all the better for two gangs of psychos to wage war. Bounty Hunter is a new team deathmatch-based mode where, upon mowing down an enemy player, you'll see them leave behind a coin - grab enemy coins for points and your teammate's cash to deny the enemy their score. The last part of the update is customizable player character languages, which means you can finally run around as a Spanish wannabe-Batman.
Meet Lollipop Chainsaw's co-StarlingsMeet Lollipop Chainsaw's co-Starlings
Joystiq PS3, April 21, 2012:
![]() The weirdest thing about Juliet Starling's sisters in Lollipop Chainsaw isn't their gleeful violence or absolute confidence that they won't shoot and/or drive through their cheerleader sis while performing insane gun and bus stunts. No, the weirdest thing is that they fight zombies - inexplicably animated corpses - constantly, but react with delight at the news that Juliet's boyfriend is just a head.
Nintendo celebrates Kirby's 20th Anniversary on WiiNintendo celebrates Kirby's 20th Anniversary on Wii
Joystiq Wii, April 21, 2012: Opening up the Nintendo Direct conference livestream, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the company has big plans to celebrate the%20th anniversary of Kirby. A new Wii game will collect past titles and package them on a retail disc - which classic Kirby titles would be included is a mystery.
Outside of the existence of Kirby's%20th Anniversary on Wii, nothing else is known right now.
Portabliss: Amoebattle (iOS, DSiWare)Portabliss: Amoebattle (iOS, DSiWare)
Joystiq DS, April 20, 2012: Did you know that you can download handheld games now? That's amazingly convenient! The only inconvenient part of it is finding the right games to buy -- and that's where we come in, with our Portabliss column. In each installment, we'll tell you about a downloadable game on the iPhone, iPad, Android device, DSi, 3DS, PSP, etc. Today: Amoebattle.
![]() Traditionally, real-time strategy games have been the domain of the PC. Attempts have been made to move the genre to other platforms in the past, some more successful than others, but demanding complexity and mouse-centered control schemes have typically kept it from flourishing elsewhere. Enter Amoebattle, a real-time strategy game for iOS (with a DSiWare version on the way next month). Cute though it may be, the heart of real-time strategy definitely beats below its adorable exterior. Continue reading Portabliss: Amoebattle (iOS, DSiWare)
'Archer' may take a shot at a Pinball FX 2 table, it's all Twitter's fault'Archer' may take a shot at a Pinball FX 2 table, it's all Twitter's fault
Joystiq Xbox, April 20, 2012: So it went down like this: Someone tweeted Archer production designer and art director Neil Holman the idea for an Archer table in Zen Studios' Pinball FX 2, Holman said he could send the idea up to FX if Zen was down, and Zen said, "Yuuuuup" (paraphrased). Holman since requested Zen's contact info and said he'll "put the wheels in motion."
It looks to us like Twitter already got those gears turning, in a wonderfully public way. This is what happens when cool people work together: transparency and dead hookers. Uh, we mean, cartoon spy-drama pinball tables. Of course.
