You can hate or love SOPA, call yourself a hardcore Republican or Democrat, or prefer vegetable oil to butter. No matter how you identify, you will no doubt laugh your face off watching a former presidential primary candidate sing the entirety of the theme song from Pokemon: The Movie%2000. Herman Cain did just that last Friday afternoon during Stephen Colbert's Charleston, South Carolina faux political rally, much to the delight of people everywhere on the planet.

What does this have to do with video games? In all honesty, not very much, but we know how hard life can be -- sometimes it seems impossible. It's never easy when there's so much on the line, but you can make a difference. And Herman Cain is here to share that message, in song.

What better way for the Nintendo of America staff to show its love for Zelda's 25th anniversary than to make art on the DS itself? Here's a quick roundup of some cute NoA creations for Flipnote Studio, posted to YouTube by a fan from the Nintendo Channel.

Joystiq DS, May 12, 2011:
The 3DS firmware update adding the eShop, DSiWare transfer, web browser, and other features, was originally scheduled to be released in "late May." A note on Nintendo of Japan's website reveals that it's going to be released so late in May that it'll actually be June by the time it arrives.

June 7 is now the official date for the firmware update, in Japan at least. That happens to coincide with Nintendo's E3 presentation, so we're now expecting that to be the worldwide release date, so Nintendo can make a dramatic reveal on stage. We're checking with Nintendo, in any case.

Update: The update will come to North America "the evening of June 6 Pacific time," according to Nintendo's website. Thanks to Donald for spotting that.

[Thanks, Manuel!]

Joystiq DS, April 13, 2011:
It's looking to be a fairly delightful summer for folks waiting on pins and needles for renovated versions of Nintendo 64 classics on the 3DS. Just one day after announcing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's June 19 release date, Nintendo's uploaded a Japanese launch date for Star Fox 64 3D to the game's official site: The bestial flight combat simulator is scheduled to hit Japanese store shelves July 14.

We've got our fingers crossed that Star Fox's journey to North America will be as speedy as Ocarina of Time's (which is coming out in Japan just three days before releasing in the U.S.). Is that wishful thinking? Perhaps. But hey, if we've gotta wish on something, we may as well wish upon a Star!

Fox.

Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns headed to DS and 3DSHarvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns headed to DS and 3DS

Joystiq DS, April 7, 2011:
Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns will launch in North America this summer simultaneously on the DS and 3DS. A 3DS Harvest Moon was previously revealed, but we weren't aware of the dual platform launch.

The latest Harvest Moon plot revolves around two towns torn apart by a rivalry over food. As a new farmer, players will have to choose between the crop-lovin' Eastern-styled town of Konohana or the meat-meat-meat, European-styled Bluebell. In time, players will bring a truce between the towns -- likely by developing an industrial farming complex that buys out both towns and places all the local farmers into indentured servitude.

It's been kind of a bummer day, hasn't it? Studio closures? Game cancellations? No thanks. Luckily, we've had our spirits boosted by Refractr's recent, mind-blowing discovery: Your Nintendo 3DS AR Cards can be blown-up to hilariously gargantuan proportions. You should probably watch the video below.

We've seen the guts of the Nintendo 3DS ripped open (and valuated!) in photos, but its hard for us to get our grisly tech-pleasure unless we see the teardown in action. Check out PimpMyConsole's audiofree 3DS surgery video posted below while we consider how truly upsetting that last sentence was.

Joystiq DS, March 29, 2011:
Nintendo is staring at some three-dimensional stacks of cash today. Nintendo of America issued a press release claiming that "U.S. day-one sales numbers for Nintendo 3DS were the highest of any Nintendo hand-held system in our history."

The publisher declined to comment on exact numbers, saying only that more information will be available when the NPD releases its report on the first-week sales. We guess that $250 price point wasn't much of a deterrent after all. Find the full statement after the break.

Users report 3DS crashes, loose hingesUsers report 3DS crashes, loose hinges

Joystiq DS, March 29, 2011:
Two issues have come up with the new 3DS -- one kind of serious, and one kind of not. NeoGAF users and a GoNintendo post, among others, document a periodic error screen that appears during gameplay, which requires the system to be shut off and turned back on in order to get back to playing. It seems to be most commonly associated with Super Monkey Ball 3D and Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars.

Nintendo of Europe issued a statement to Eurogamer suggesting that this issue could be fixed by downloading the latest firmware. If that doesn't fix the issue, the company recommends users "contact their local Nintendo Customer Service centre to investigate the problem further."

Some users are also reporting an excessively loose hinge, causing the top half of the system to wobble during play. "The hinge i thought was OK," reports 3DSBuzz forum user Suspiria, "but throughout the day it has got worse and worse." Nintendo acknowledges the possibility of such an issue on its support site, advising those who suffer from it to send the system in for repairs. We're contacting Nintendo about both issues, and will let you know what shakes out. Hopefully, it's not the top of a 3DS.

[Thanks, Don]

Joystiq DS, March 28, 2011:
Nintendo UK Head of Communications Robert Saunders recently responded to a post on MaxConsole, which corralled a number of Twitter users complaining that their time with the 3DS was causing headaches and dizziness. Saunders explained, "When viewing any kind of 3D images (TV, movies etc.), some people might experience minor discomfort." He added, "The effects are short term and have no lasting effect, in fact most players can continue after taking a short break." Click past the jump for his full statement.

For those who find Saunders' response a little too corporate, Penny Arcade also released its response to 3DS discomfort earlier today. Sure, it's a smidge exaggerated, but we find it to be a tad more entertaining than the company line.

Joystiq DS, March 27, 2011:
Trust us when we say this: you were lucky not to have weathered the shockingly cold East Village this evening. No matter how much you want a Nintendo 3DS -- and we imagine that's quite a considerable amount at this point -- nothing was worth the blistering wait.

Except, to the hundreds of folks munching down hot dogs and giant pretzels (not to mention the free tacos), and happily donning Nintendo 3DS woolen caps and tees, the cold wasn't such a big deal. As we approached the front of the line, blankets and makeshift blanket forts were keeping the most loyal -- or perhaps the craziest? -- warm in the painstaking last hour, though smiles were just as ubiquitous.

The cold, it seems, may have pushed some people off. As you'll see in the gallery after the break, the 3DS' big coming out party could've probably used a few more attendees lining up to get inside. We're sure Nintendo will have no problem getting rid of consoles at launch and in the coming weeks, but the catering company from tonight's event is likely gonna need to get rid of a few hundred extra hot dogs.

Pokemon Black and White sell 2 million in U.S. in first two weeksPokemon Black and White sell 2 million in U.S. in first two weeks

Joystiq DS, March 26, 2011:
The Pokémon franchise is commonly criticized for refusing to change between generations -- luckily for Nintendo, one of the elements that doesn't seem to change over the years is all the mad, mad money each new installment pulls in. Nintendo of America recently Tweeted to inform its followers Pokémon Black and White have sold 2 million units in the U.S. during their first two weeks on store shelves.

On top of the 5 million-plus copies that have sold in Japan, we think it's safe to say that gamers aren't scared off by all the similarities to previous iterations of the franchise. We're a little worried about the game's success, though -- after all, it's going to be rather difficult to be the very best (like no one ever was) when over 7 million people share our aspirations.

Okamiden producers discuss planning around Pokemon and 3DSOkamiden producers discuss planning around Pokemon and 3DS

Joystiq, March 26, 2011:
The producers of Okamiden realized they were in a pickle, marketing-wise, when they were finishing up the Western version of the game just as the 3DS and Pok émon Black and White were being announced for the same release window. Capcom decided to thread the needle and send Okamiden out right between these two.

"Even though the news of the Nintendo 3DS was a bit earlier than we had expected," said producer Motohide Eshiro and director Kuniomi Matsushita in a postmortem on Gamasutra, "we decided that releasing the pan-Western versions of the game after Pokémon and before Nintendo's 3DS would be our best bet."

The developers also revealed the inspiration behind Okamiden's partner system, which pairs the tiny Chibiterasu with young swordsboys, mermaids, Moon Tribe aliens, and others. "A child version of Amaterasu would only have half the abilities of the adult Amaterasu," they said. "It would be rather difficult for half of a god to save the world, but if there were a partner, then the two of them could work together to save the world."

Amazon handing out $25 game credit with 3DS pre-orderAmazon handing out $25 game credit with 3DS pre-order

Joystiq DS, March 24, 2011:
Have you already pre-ordered a 3DS from Amazon? You just made $25. Well, you've still spent $250, of course, but you'll get $25 back in the form of credit. Likely in response to Kmart's $25 credit offer, Amazon is including a $25 credit with 3DS pre-orders, which can be redeemed toward a selection of 3DS games.

In addition, that same selection of 3DS software comes with a $10 credit toward a second 3DS game. We would be very surprised if the credits stacked, so don't expect an aggregate $35 bonus on your 3DS and game order. But in any case, money is saved!

[Thanks, Matt]

Joystiq DS, March 22, 2011:
If you're going to lay out $250 for a 3DS next week, we're guessing you really wouldn't mind hearing about a way to save money on games. On March 27, the day the system launches, Toys R Us will offer a "buy one, get one half off" deal on all 3DS games.

In addition, if you're not quite sure about that 3DS yet, many TRU locations will feature 3DS demos from 12-3 PM on Sunday. The store is also offering up to $75 on trade-ins of DS hardware towards a 3DS, but getting rid of your DS is something we'd advise against.
