Joystiq Wii, March 18, 2011:
The Billy Joel "critic spite machine" rolls on, as next week's Rock Band DLC adds another six of the piano man's legendary songs. Hang out with your bosom buddies and sing "My Life, " or pour a bottle of red, a bottle of white and experience "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant." For those in a more melancholy mood, there's "She's Always a Woman."

Wii Remote Plus vs. Wii RemoteWii Remote Plus vs. Wii Remote

Joystiq Wii, November 1, 2010:
Our press copy of FlingSmash -- like all copies of FlingSmash -- included a black Wii Remote Plus controller, the new version of the Wiimote with MotionPlus inside.

We immediately got it out and compared it visually against a plain old Wii Remote, and now we can determine with scientific* precision that it looks exactly like a regular Wiimote -- except for the "Wii MotionPlus Inside" label under the Wii logo. You can see the (complete lack of) difference for yourself in our gallery.

The one thing you can't see in the gallery: the difference in weight. We didn't have a kitchen scale handy, but informal testing (i.e. picking them both up) revealed no perceptible difference in weight. The fact that the added hardware doesn't change the controller in the slightest suggests that the MotionPlus was a placebo all along, increasing the sensitivity of controls by making you think they were more sensitive. Either that or the gyroscope is really small. We're not ruling anything out. FlingSmash and the Wii Remote Plus will be out November 7 in North America.
*actually not scientific at all -- we pretty much just looked at it.

Guitar Hero celebrates Rocktober with free track pack and Rocky HorrorGuitar Hero celebrates Rocktober with free track pack and Rocky Horror

Joystiq Wii, October 12, 2010:
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock may be composed of "ancient gameplay mechanics shrouded in a campy heavy metal veneer," but for those who picked it up on Xbox, it's about to be that, with three free songs. Which is objectively better. A three-track pack is available today for Gold members, featuring Disturbed's "The Infection," Muse's "Resistance," and My Chemical Romance's "Na Na Na." It's free now, and will be available for purchase by Silver Live users on October 19.

On October 26, Activision will release a seasonally appropriate DLC pack: three songs from the Rocky Horror Picture Show! Soundgarden doesn't really have anything to do with Halloween, but selected individual tracks from the "Telephantasm" album will also be available for purchase that day -- though Activision didn't mention which tracks. See the list of known DLC after the break.

Joystiq, July 14, 2010:
Capcom has announced that its boisterous brawler, Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, will arrive in North America on October 12. Launching simultaneously on Wii and PlayStation 3, Samurai Heroes sees you "picking up the arms of more than a dozen samurai heroes" in 16th century Japan. With so many limbs strewn about, that must have been a pretty horrific time.

Action fans will be keen to see how the game was shaped by Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and history buffs should be pleased by Sengoku Basara's attentive retelling of all the famous battles between Japan's magical super-generals. Sure, the%200-hit air juggles are an unbelievable embellishment (most historians balk at anything over 147 hits), but if you're looking for a 1:1 combat simulation, try Dynasty Warriors instead.

Newegg drops prices on 50 Cent, Metal Slug 7, and moreNewegg drops prices on 50 Cent, Metal Slug 7, and more

Joystiq [Nintendo], February 18, 2010:
Thanks to Newegg, you can grab 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand for a price closer than ever to 50 cents. As part of a "blowout" sale, you can pick up 50 for $9.99 on Xbox 360, or $12.99 on PS3 (a paltry 300 Cent more) with free shipping. If that's not the particular style of bullet-ridden gameplay you seek, why not grab Metal Slug 7 on DS for just $9? Or incite real violence in your home with Singstar -- available on its own for $10, or with two microphones for $25, with Volume 2 also down to $10.

Many of the other deals are questionable, but they're also cheap. Maybe you didn't care about Beowulf on PSP, but you probably care a little more now that it's $4. And $14 is a much more reasonable price for the chance to enjoy Castlevania Judgment's brutally insane cutscenes and actually kind of enjoyable gameplay. Click the following links to browse the sale by platform. Happy impulse purchasing!

Capcom pulls Super Street Fighter IV, Lost Planet 2, Monster Hunter 3 from Q1 2010Capcom pulls Super Street Fighter IV, Lost Planet 2, Monster Hunter 3 from Q1 2010

Joystiq [Nintendo], December 22, 2009:
According to an investor document (PDF) posted by Capcom Japan today, several major titles have been moved from the company's fiscal fourth quarter, which ends March 31,%2010. The delayed titles include Super Street Fighter IV, Lost Planet 2 and the North American and European release of Monster Hunter 3. The releases of these games and others, including Dead Rising 2, are planned to be "spread across all four quarters" of Capcom's fiscal%2011, which begins April 1,%2010 and ends March 31,%2011. The decision to delay the games was made in order to "avoid competing with the major titles that other companies plan to introduce."

Curiously, Dark Void has not been delayed, though Capcom has drastically reduced its sales forecast from 1.3 million units to only 600,000 (the split between Xbox 360 and PS3 copies was not specified).

Given the reasons for Capcom's schedule shuffling, we can't help but wonder if other companies will follow suit. When all is said and done, the Great%2009 Holiday Release Migration just might be set to repeat itself. If so, does Yves Guillemot win a prize?
