Opening up the Nintendo Direct conference livestream, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the company has big plans to celebrate the%20th anniversary of Kirby. A new Wii game will collect past titles and package them on a retail disc - which classic Kirby titles would be included is a mystery.

Outside of the existence of Kirby's%20th Anniversary on Wii, nothing else is known right now.

You can hate or love SOPA, call yourself a hardcore Republican or Democrat, or prefer vegetable oil to butter. No matter how you identify, you will no doubt laugh your face off watching a former presidential primary candidate sing the entirety of the theme song from Pokemon: The Movie%2000. Herman Cain did just that last Friday afternoon during Stephen Colbert's Charleston, South Carolina faux political rally, much to the delight of people everywhere on the planet.

What does this have to do with video games? In all honesty, not very much, but we know how hard life can be -- sometimes it seems impossible. It's never easy when there's so much on the line, but you can make a difference. And Herman Cain is here to share that message, in song.

What better way for the Nintendo of America staff to show its love for Zelda's 25th anniversary than to make art on the DS itself? Here's a quick roundup of some cute NoA creations for Flipnote Studio, posted to YouTube by a fan from the Nintendo Channel.

Chrono Trigger travels to Virtual Console next MondayChrono Trigger travels to Virtual Console next Monday

Joystiq Wii, May 12, 2011:
It sure feels like we've waited an eternity for Square's timeless Super Nintendo RPG to come to Virtual Console. Begrudgingly, we suppose it's true -- good things do come to those who wait. Next Monday, May 16, marks Chrono Trigger's long overdue release on Virtual Console in North America.

Following its press release, Square Enix confirmed that the game will be sold at the standard 800 Wii Points ($8) price for SNES ports on VC (as opposed to the 900-point premium being charged in Japan). That's quite a bargain for pretty much the best game ever.

Joystiq DS, May 12, 2011:
The 3DS firmware update adding the eShop, DSiWare transfer, web browser, and other features, was originally scheduled to be released in "late May." A note on Nintendo of Japan's website reveals that it's going to be released so late in May that it'll actually be June by the time it arrives.

June 7 is now the official date for the firmware update, in Japan at least. That happens to coincide with Nintendo's E3 presentation, so we're now expecting that to be the worldwide release date, so Nintendo can make a dramatic reveal on stage. We're checking with Nintendo, in any case.

Update: The update will come to North America "the evening of June 6 Pacific time," according to Nintendo's website. Thanks to Donald for spotting that.

[Thanks, Manuel!]

Nintendo will deliver its E3 presentation on June 7 at 9AM Pacific (12PM Eastern), at LA's Nokia Theatre -- so if you're dying to know which of the many preposterous things we've heard about the Wii successor is the preposterous truth, you'll have to wait until then.

We can also expect to hear more about upcoming games for the Wii, DS, and especially the new 3DS -- like the 3DS Super Mario game, for example, and probably some games we haven't heard of yet. You'll be able to read about it all in real time right here on Joystiq!

There'll probably be streaming video, too, but you should just stick with reading Joystiq. Just because.

Joystiq Wii, April 29, 2011:
Nintendo hasn't officially detailed the MotionPlus-enhanced minigames in the Wii Play: Motion collection, but a set of screenshots posted by GoNintendo gives an impression of all the new minigames you'll own when you decide to buy another Wiimote.

There's a game in which you fly around using an umbrella in strong wind; one called "Spooky Search," which makes use of the Wiimote speaker (to locate ghosts in your room); a stone-skipping game; and a sort of "Human Tetris" scenario in which you pose a Mii to fit through Mii-shaped holes in the wall. There's also a side-scrolling minigame about guiding balloons through mazes, something diving-themed, and a spacecraft flight game.

Wii Play: Motion will begin irritating hardcore gamers with sales on June 13 in North America and June 24 in Europe.

Nintendo announces Wii successor for 2012Nintendo announces Wii successor for 2012

Joystiq Wii, April 25, 2011:
Nintendo has officially announced its intention to release a new console in%2012. According to a note published this morning on the company's Japanese investor relations website, "Nintendo Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in%2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in%2006 and the end of March%2011."

The terse announcement does nothing to clear up rumors surrounding the system, which has been paired with high-definition graphics, motion controls and a handheld touch screen. Less trustworthy industry sources have even indicated that the system's rumored codename, "Project Cafe," hints at its ability to shoot a cappuccino directly into your gaping mouth.

According to the investor note (posted after the break), Nintendo plans to show off a playable model of the Wii successor during this year's E3, which takes places in Los Angeles from June 7th.

Rumor: Nintendo courting Rockstar for Wii 2 developmentRumor: Nintendo courting Rockstar for Wii 2 development

Joystiq Wii, April 19, 2011:
The "Wii 2" rumors are raging again, for sure, but now they're in danger of burning out of control -- so let's backtrack. After delivering some spot-on NGP specs days before Sony's official unveiling ceremony, French tech site 01net earned its web cred. That's why the games media took notice (and some even corroborated) when the wonder site reignited the Wii successor rumors last Thursday, and then tossed in some more fuel the following day.

This week, 01net has come out with another intriguing report about Nintendo's supposed next console: Rockstar's on board. The site's sources claim that the Grand Theft Auto creator is the first confirmed company to secure a developer unit of the new Nintendo hardware. The sources add that the system, said to be codenamed "Project Cafe," is expected to be released in June%2012. And here's where the rumor starts to grow more wild.

Gamekyo somewhat carelessly throws out there that Grand Theft Auto 5 is also rumored for%2012 -- is it? (There's at least been some recent evidence that the next GTA is in the works.) And then, GoNintendo fits it all together: "Rockstar has a dev kit [...] working on GTA V (which is sure to hit PS3/360 as well) [...] hoping to have it available at launch." Eureka? Not quite.

But, boy, if Nintendo is on the verge of announcing the one console to rule them all and has a Rockstar logo to flaunt during the presentation? Talk about printing money ...

Joystiq Wii, April 14, 2011:
Rumors of a "Wii 2" or "Wii HD" have been flying since ... well, pretty much since the Wii launched, but when an outlet the size of Game Informer piles on, it's tough not to take notice.

The publication says it's hearing from multiple sources that Nintendo will announce a new home console at or before E3. According to hearsay, the console would arrive in%2012 and would sport HD graphics, though GI's sources are conflicted about how said graphics would compare to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Well, there goes our "Schedule Vacations for E3 Week When All The Video Game Journalist Resorts Are Super Empty" plan.

Update: IGN found some anonymous sources of its own, who claim that the new console will be backwards compatible with all Wii games. Its sources say that the console is "significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."

Star Fox 64 3D barrel rolls out in Japan July 14Star Fox 64 3D barrel rolls out in Japan July 14

Joystiq DS, April 13, 2011:
It's looking to be a fairly delightful summer for folks waiting on pins and needles for renovated versions of Nintendo 64 classics on the 3DS. Just one day after announcing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's June 19 release date, Nintendo's uploaded a Japanese launch date for Star Fox 64 3D to the game's official site: The bestial flight combat simulator is scheduled to hit Japanese store shelves July 14.

We've got our fingers crossed that Star Fox's journey to North America will be as speedy as Ocarina of Time's (which is coming out in Japan just three days before releasing in the U.S.). Is that wishful thinking? Perhaps. But hey, if we've gotta wish on something, we may as well wish upon a Star!

Fox.

Zumba Fitness overtakes Crysis 2 for top UK sales spotZumba Fitness overtakes Crysis 2 for top UK sales spot

Joystiq Wii, April 11, 2011:
Zumba Fitness and Crysis 2 both moved significantly less product last week in the UK. With only 500 copies separating the two the prior week, the 57 percent drop by Crysis 2 and the 47 percent decline by Zumba Fitness meant the latter took the lead.

It seems that "winning" the sales chart last week was all about having the lowest decline in sales, as almost every game in the top six saw a 40-something percent drop (Chart-Track speculates it was the UK's warm weather). This led to Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars forcing itself to maintain third place, while Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters climbed up two spots into fourth and Shift 2: Unleashed decelerated into fifth.

Tecmo-Koei's Dynasty Warriors 7 was the only new entry in the Top 40, button-mashing itself all the way up to tenth place. Observe the UK top ten after the break.

Joystiq DS, April 7, 2011:
Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns will launch in North America this summer simultaneously on the DS and 3DS. A 3DS Harvest Moon was previously revealed, but we weren't aware of the dual platform launch.

The latest Harvest Moon plot revolves around two towns torn apart by a rivalry over food. As a new farmer, players will have to choose between the crop-lovin' Eastern-styled town of Konohana or the meat-meat-meat, European-styled Bluebell. In time, players will bring a truce between the towns -- likely by developing an industrial farming complex that buys out both towns and places all the local farmers into indentured servitude.

Harmonix has announced that the price of Rock Band 3 (game only) has dropped down to $20 on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii -- great for starving, wannabe musicians looking to jam to The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations." Or, you know, any of the other 82 songs available on the disc.

You can find the game for the reduced price right now on Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop -- or you can head into your local brick-and-mortar if you're looking for that immediate rock fix.
